Australian artist Jane Long transforms pale black and white pictures into colourful works of fantasy, giving the themes a brand new, and completely surreal context. The pictures she makes use of for her collection, Dancing with Costică, have been captured over a half century in the past by Costică Acsinte, a Romanian struggle photographer who documented WWI.
The glass-plate pictures by Costică seize the straight faces and intense eyes of the themes taken lengthy earlier than smiling was widespread in photographs. “I needed to vary the context of the pictures,” says Lengthy. “Photographic practices on the time meant individuals not often smiled in photographs however that does not imply they did not chuckle and love. I needed to introduce that to the pictures.” The artist stands by her work and explains, “I needed individuals to see these figures as actual individuals, extra than simply an previous photograph.”
