Every now and then I hear the argument that Fb is dropping teenagers to Snapchat. Cnet wrote that Fb was “overrun by parents”, driving teenagers to Snapchat. CNN chimed in with an analogous theme, noting that teens didn’t feel like they could “be themselves” on Fb. And there are numerous surveys that support these stories, displaying that extra teenagers use Snapchat (or Instagram) than they do Fb.
So ought to Fb be shaking of their boots? I do not assume so, for 2 causes. First, as I have argued in the past, the truth that teenagers want Snapchat over Fb is to me much less of a development than it’s a assertion concerning the social media wants of teenagers.
Snapchat is a superb device for sharing senseless snippets of data with a small group of individuals that you simply see on a regular basis. As teenagers graduate from highschool and school nevertheless, their social networks broaden – highschool, school, work, neighborhood, household, and so forth. – which creates a necessity for a community like Fb. So my prediction is that at this time’s Snapchat customers will probably be tomorrow’s Fb customers.
This can be a drawback for Snapchat, for 2 causes. First, no social community needs to lose customers as they develop up. Second, teenagers are notoriously fickle – anticipating new generations of teenagers to use the app that the final era used is dangerous. So if you cannot “develop up” together with your customers, you’re in hassle. And that is one factor that Fb has confirmed is can do and Snapchat as but has not.
Keep in mind that Fb began as a university community (particularly a community for Harvard). It has since expanded to succeed in billions of customers of all ages and nationalities all over the world. Fb regularly refines its function units
