Nearly all typical Tuscan landscape photographs from postcards or calendars come from the area of “Val d’Orcia“, the valley of the river Orcia. It’s endless landscape with it’s gently sloping hills, lonely farmhouses, and cypress lined valleys, makes it one of the most scenic areas in Europe and has rightly earned it’s place on the the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites.
The best time to capture the Val d’Orcia landscape is usually just before sunrise. During this time, the lower areas of the valley are often covered by a soft mist, while the farmhouses on the higher hills are still visible. The landscape is given a dreamy, almost magical look.
Photographer Frank Fischbach shares with us some of his favorite landscape shots from his travels through the mystical Val d’Orcia region of Tuscany, Italy.
