The back-to-school season is in full swing, which means last minute shoppers are on the hunt for the best deals — and they’re turning to their social networks to find them. According to a survey by Crowdtap, nearly 65 percent of those last minute shoppers plan to use social sites such as Instagram, Pinterest or Facebook for product discovery.

Indeed, more than 45 percent of those surveyed said they considered peer reviews before making a purchase, while only 33 percent considered expert reviews. The survey also indicates that more than 60 percent of shoppers purchased items they found on social media. While Facebook is the obvious leader, Pinterest beats out all the other social networks as a source of back to school inspiration.

Not only are shoppers looking for recommendations, they’re also sharing ideas as well. Twenty-five percent of those surveyed said they would likely share digital coupons, and 21 percent said they’d share information about deals and sales, or link to a contest.
