NESCAFÉ Alarm Cap

NESCAFÉ launched their worldwide re-branding with some eye opening coffee packaging featuring a high tech alarm cap produced by creative agency Publicis Mexico Innovation Lab in collaboration with NOTlabs, the creative arm of NOTCOT, Inc.

“Although NESCAFÉ was the first instant coffee and market leader with several innovations, it had never done anything revolutionary with its packaging. Since NESCAFÉ wanted something unprecedented to mark the occasion, a reusable cap combining industrial design, packaging design and unique user experience came to be.”

The coffee brand embraced consumer maker technologies to build and design 200 limited edition, alarm caps with seven different alarm tones synchronized with light to create a natural awakening experience for coffee lovers. Each piece was hand-assembled in California, with the exteriors 3D printed in nylon by Shapeways on a selective laser sintering (SLS) printer and the interiors 3D printed on a Makerbot. The cap’s interface combines an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen, a four-way joystick and runs on an Arduino-compatible platform.
